Nigerian musician Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo, who is popularly recognized by his stage name Kcee, has recently addressed the allegations made against him regarding the accusation of imitating his fellow artist Flavour.
In his response, Kcee sought to clarify the situation and express his viewpoint on the matter, emphasizing that he has always aimed to carve out his unique identity in the music industry.
According to the VIZTADAILY NEWS, Flavour recently harassed someone online for supposedly stealing his sound.
Although Flavour made no mention of anyone, Kcee took offense and reacted appropriately.
Flavour, he said, was not on his level and he should pick his battles wisely.
Citing his own experience in the music industry, he cautioned Flavour against attempting to censor Igbo indigenous music.
‘Bro,’ Kcee said on his X handle, ‘We are not on the same level. Be careful who you choose to fight.
Give up on attempting to protect Igbo culture. A custodian is not you.
‘This game was played by me before you
‘It is everyone’s.
You are not the owner of this musical genre.
I won’t say I’m sorry; my music honors our background.
Amidst a sea of important stuff. A needle is what you are.
Make sure you get that right.
People are able to identify genuineness. I will not stop proudly showcasing our culture. Invest your efforts on achievement rather than undermining mine.
