APC members in the state’s Etsako West Local Government Area peacefully protested against the impeached deputy governor’s alleged plan to defect to the party, seemingly in support of the State House of Assembly’s decision to impeach Philip Shaibu, the former deputy governor of Edo.

The deputy governor, who is from Etsako West LGA, was impeached by the Edo State House of Assembly on Monday during its plenary session.
Following the acceptance of a report by the seven-member panel appointed by the state’s chief judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, to look into impeachment petitions alleging misconduct and perjury against the previous House deputy governor.
The panel concluded in its findings that the former deputy governor had disclosed state secrets to the public, while the complaint had not established beyond a reasonable doubt that the former deputy governor had committed perjury.
According to the Viztadaily POST, APC members from all 12 local government wards marched to the party headquarters on Tuesday carrying a variety of signs protesting what they saw to be Shaibu’s readmission to the party.
Under the sponsorship of local APC stakeholders, the demonstrators stated that party peace and tranquility had returned with the impeached deputy governor’s departure from the party in 2020.
Yakubu Musa, the group’s spokesperson, stated that the demonstration was in opposition to an attempt urging the beleaguered Shaibu to join the APC.
Musa stated that the party will become even more divisive if the former deputy governor was let back into the fold.
It is official that since leaving the APC to join the PDP, Philip Shaibu has not won any elections. He has no electoral worth that would allow him to be admitted back into our wonderful party.
Any attempts to re-admit Shaibu has into the All Progressives Congress is a call to disaster, divisions, defection, and disintegration within the party,” he said.
But he pleaded with Senator Adams Oshiomhole, the acting state chairman Jaret Tenebe, and the party’s national chairman Abdullahi Ganduje to thwart Shaibu’s attempts to rejoin the party.
Philip Shaibu’s chief press secretary, Musa Ebomhiana, responded by saying Some people financed the protest in an attempt to make him look bad.
“It was a part of the elaborate scheme put up by someone to make Shaibu look bad, and nobody owns the party, so it can’t stop him from going wherever he is going.”
He stated that all Nigerians own the party and that “the more, the merrier,” meaning that no one can stop someone from joining a political party.
