Just In: PDP NWC Reverses Suspension Of Fayose, Shema, And Others

In a reconciliatory gesture, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC), led by Ambassador Umar Ilya Damagum, on Thursday revoked the suspension of certain members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), as well as the direction to appear before a disciplinary committee.

These were the highlights of the choices made during its meeting on Thursday, after detailed discussion of the topics.

Last week, the party suspended former Katsina state governor Ibrahim Shema and former Ekiti state governor Ayo Fayose and asked Benue state governor Samuel Ortom to appear before a disciplinary committee.

According to a statement issued by Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary, the NWC acknowledged the need of comprehensive reconciliation,

among Party leaders and crucial stakeholders for a more cohesive Party in the ultimate benefit of the teeming members and Nigerians in general.

As a result, he stated, “As a result of the foregoing, the NWC reverses the referral of Benue State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Samuel Ortom which seem earlier than a disciplinary committee.

In the same line, the NWC lifts the suspensions of the following members of our great Party: ” Ibrahim Shema (Katsina State), Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti State), Sen.

Dennis Ityavyar (Benue State) and Dr. Aslam Aliyu (Zamfara State)” Prof Pius Anyim (Ebonyi State),.

“This decision is without prejudice to the NWC’s ability to take appropriate disciplinary action against any member of the Party at any time pursuant to the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as revised in 2017),” Ologunagba added.

The NWC calls on all leaders, critical stakeholders, and throngs of our Party’s members across the country to be guided by the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017),

as well as the new spirit and necessity of reconciliation, unity, and harmony in our Party at this critical juncture.

“The PDP must stay focused as we continue to pursue every necessary effort to retrieve the stolen mandate freely granted by Nigerians to our Party and Presidential candidate.

Atiku Abubakar, in the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Saturday, February 25, 2023.”

The meeting on Thursday was the first under the leadership of the new acting national chairman, Damagum,

who was appointed Tuesday following a restraining order issued by the Benue High Court against Iyorchia Ayu as national chairman.
