According to the statement released by the Osun Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, Governor Adeleke expressed his displeasure upon learning about the incident from his Special Adviser on O-Meal, Grace Oluwaseyi Ayodele.

Nathaniel Ojetola, Chairman of the Local Government Education Authority, who played a pivotal role in rescuing the affected pupils, revealed that all eighteen students were promptly rushed to a state capital hospital, where they received treatment and were subsequently discharged.

Governor Adeleke, taking swift action, has ordered an immediate halt to any further food preparation at the affected school until the investigations are completed. A scheduled meeting on Tuesday morning will summon cooks from the implicated schools and the planning officer for the O-Meal program to shed light on the incident.

The statement emphasized Governor Adeleke’s directive for the strict enforcement of food standards, along with enhanced control and auditing of the O-Meal structure to prevent similar occurrences. Additionally, the state government has taken responsibility for settling the medical bills of the affected pupils.

“The LGEA Chairman, who spearheaded the intervention efforts, revealed that a total of 18 students were treated and discharged. The school’s total student population is two hundred, with one hundred and three students included in the O-Meal Programme,” added the Commissioner.

In a gesture of empathy, a government delegation is set to visit the families of the affected students, demonstrating the state’s commitment to addressing the aftermath of this distressing incident. As investigations unfold, the Osun state government remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of its students, while the public anxiously awaits further developments in this unfolding saga.
