As the Euro 2024 approaches, Manchester United great Wayne Rooney has counseled England manager Gareth Southgate to center his team around Manchester City’s Phil Foden rather than Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham.
Following a strong season for Pep Guardiola’s team, Foden was awarded the English Premier League Player of the Year.
The 24-year-old scored 27 goals and contributed 12 assists for City in 53 games across all competitions.
Rooney, who is presently the manager of Plymouth Argyle, told Channel 4 that although Jude Bellingham is wonderful, the England team needs to be built around a player like Phil Foden in the midfield.
This follows the recent friendly between England and 1-0 loss to the island nation of Iceland
