Shettima: Tinubu’s agenda depends on diaspora remittances surpassing foreign aid.

Date:

According to Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President Bola Tinubu-led administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda is a revolutionary policy initiative meant to reestablish Nigeria as a top international investment destination.

Shettima stated that as the agenda is centered around the fundamentals of democracy, development, demography, and diaspora engagement, now is the perfect time to remind Nigerians and the rest of the world that their country is prepared to face the future and do business.

VP Shettima made a remark behind his desk during a high-level discussion on delivering the renewed hope agenda on Friday in Abuja, with the theme being ‘Nigeria’s Global Ambitions: From Hope to Reality.’ Spokesman Stanley Nkwocha presented the administration’s bold plan, emphasizing President Tinubu’s dedication to risk-taking changes and calculated alliances to boost security and the country’s economy.

The certainty of our vision for this country is not the main reason we are here today; he stated. This has always been clear. We are here because of our position in an opportunity-rich world, one that cannot afford to undervalue or ignore us.

‘The Renewed Hope Agenda is a declaration of commitment, a covenant between us and the people, not just a framework for policy.’

VP Shettima noted that the ‘4-D Diplomacy Strategy,’ which is focused on advancing democracy, advancing economic growth, and utilizing Nigeria’s population potential and interacting with the migrant community.

He praised the significant contribution made by Nigerians living abroad, who sent more than $168 billion in remittances between 2015 and 2022—a sum that exceeded overseas development assistance.

The newly unveiled $10 billion Diaspora Fund, a multisectoral investment project that is anticipated to be established shortly and deepen relations with our diaspora population while raising forex inflows to assist our national development ambitions, is further evidence of this, the Vice President stated.

Shettima also outlined President Tinubu’s economic initiatives, such as the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, which aims to support efficient infrastructure development across important economic sectors, and a ₦75 billion investment program to transform the manufacturing sector.

Regarding security issues, Vice President Shettima reiterated the administration’s dedication to ensuring the protection of people and property through national and regional actions.

The Vice President said, ‘This is the time to partner for democracy, for development, for peace, and for security,’ extending an invitation to foreign partners and highlighting the necessity of cooperation in the post-COVID-19 age.

Prior to this, the UN noted that Nigeria had made significant strides under the Tinubu administration in the previous year as a result of policies meant to stabilize the economy and address insecurity.

Over the past year, Nigeria has witnessed progress from the reforms introduced by this administration to stabilise the economy, stated UN Deputy Secretary-General Hajiya Amina Mohammed. And it’s evident that the nation has progressed, which is commendable. The government of Nigeria has also taken the initiative to address security issues in the nation and its surrounding areas, as seen by the holding of an African counterterrorism gathering just a month ago.

‘To bridge the digital divide and empower our people in this digital age, there have also been other noteworthy initiatives, such as the nationwide digital literacy program and the expansion of the broadband infrastructure.’

In a message of goodwill, Dr. Richard Montgomery, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, expressed that the UK is impressed with the security measures President Tinubu has implemented while reiterating the UK’s support for the Nigerian government in this regard, particularly with regard to accountability and transparency in governance.

I would like to take this opportunity to convey my sincere support; of my administration to His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda. We applaud his plan for emphasizing delivery and priority. We recognize that you have made significant contributions to establishing accountability and openness.

Additionally, Dr. Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, thanked everyone for attending and stressed the significance of the work being done to further President Tinubu’s economic vision for Nigeria while announcing the forum’s opening.

She said that the event, which was organized by the Vice President’s Office, demonstrates how the multinational company helps the President, achieve the outstanding objectives of his noble Renewed Hope Agenda.

‘It is not surprising that, in line with our development agenda, Mr. President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shetiima have interacted both locally and globally with organizations that represent development partnerships, multilateral institutions, and bilateral institutions over the past year.’

He expressed happiness that the dialogue’s theme, ‘Leveraging International Cooperation to Enhance Trade, Investment, and Sustainable Development in Nigeria,’ would be covered and stated that the Bank of Industry has personally seen the revolutionary under the Tinubu administration, the ability of strategic partnerships to promote inclusive development and accelerate economic progress.
