Durban: Police sources in Durban say that a drive-by shooting on Florida Road on Friday night resulted in the death of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes.
Another person who is thought to be AKA’s bodyguard was also injured, and another unidentified person who is thought to be a close friend of AKA was shot and killed.
IOL independently confirmed the details of the shooting from well-placed police sources,
who could not be named because they are not permitted to speak to the media. This was done prior to provincial police confirming the incident.
Later, a spokesperson for the police, Colonel Robert Netshiunda,
confirmed that two murder cases were being investigated by the police but that the motives for the murders had not yet been determined.
He confirmed that one of the deceased was a well-known musician without naming Forbes.
It is generally accepted that AKA was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting while he was standing outside the Wish Restaurant.
It is believed that two unidentified cars opened fire just before 10 p.m.
When an IOL team arrived at the scene on Friday night, police had already established a perimeter around it.
In shock, stunned diners at a nearby restaurant informed IOL that AKA had been outside Wish when he was shot and killed.
A spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, Garrith Jamieson, stated that Florida Road has been closed due to the shooting in which two people have been confirmed dead. Jamieson stated that one of the deceased was a “famous rapper.”
