Afrobeats musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, made an appearance in Times Square in New York City to assist Nigerian chess master Tunde Onakoya in his attempt to shatter the record for the longest chess marathon set by Guinness World Records.

Davido and Onakoya were seen cuddling in a video that went viral on social media. The audience applauded as the afrobeats artist came out to encourage his fellow countryman.
Nigerian artist Adekunle Kosoko, better known by his stage name Adekunle Gold, Nigeria’s consul general in New York City, Ambassador Peter Egopija, and Omoyele Sowore are just a few of the people who have come out in favor of Onakoya.
Providing updates regarding The event, which is taking place at New York City’s iconic Times Square, started at 10 am on Wednesday, April 17, and is scheduled to end at 8 pm on April 19. Onakoya is participating in an intense chess marathon, aiming to play for 58 hours without a single defeat.
The most recent record, which was set by Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad of Norway on the 11th of November 2018, is 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds. Onakoya wrote on his X account on Thursday, saying, “Game number 100. 87 against my main opponent #CoachShawnMar. 13 against external challengers.
