The Nigeria Governors Forum has guaranteed Nigerians and organized labor that continuing negotiations will result in a higher minimum wage.

The governors had previously rejected the Federal Government’s suggestion of N62,000, claiming that some states would have to borrow money to cover salaries.

The governors decided to hold an emergency meeting after the Federal Executive Council postponed the minimum wage debate on Tuesday to allow President Bola Tinubu to undertake more extensive consultations.

According to a communiqué issued following an emergency meeting that went into the early hours of Thursday,

signed by NGF interim Director of Media, Ahmed Salihu, the Forum concluded Several concerns are affecting the nation.

According to the communiqué, the group reviewed the new national minimum wage and agreed to continue working with key stakeholders to find a mutually acceptable solution.

It read: ‘The Forum received a presentation from the Minister of Women Affairs on the World Bank-Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up, as well as other ministry operations.’

Members highlighted the importance of the project and the need to implement it at the state level, as originally intended because states are the principal obligors.

‘The governors recognize the Ministry of Women Affairs’ efforts to promote gender equality, empower women, and advance the advancement of society in Nigeria.’

‘The Forum talked about the new National Minimum Wage.

‘The Forum talked about the new National Minimum Wage. The governors agreed to continue working with key stakeholders to find a mutually beneficial solution.’

‘We are committed to the process and certain that the ongoing negotiations will result in higher wages;’

The 36 state governors emphasized the significance of the World Bank-Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up and the importance of implementing it at the state level,

as originally planned, given that the states are the principal entities responsible for the project.

The release added, ‘We, their members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), discussed issues impacting the country at the meeting we had today.

‘Members met with the World Bank’s Acting Country Director, Mr. Taimur Samad, and his team to discuss the bank’s numerous projects.

Currently, several projects are underway in the states, including the HOPE Series of Projects:

Nigeria Human Capital Chances for Prosperity and Equality, Food and Nutrition Security, NFWP-SU: Nigeria For Women The assignment Scale Up, and NG-CARES:

Nigeria Community Action (for) Resilience and Economic Stimulus Programme SABER stands for State Action on Business Enabling Reforms Program.

SPIN: Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria Project.

‘Members expressed a readiness to continue providing the critical assistance required to maintain program effectiveness nationwide.

‘Members were briefed by Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, Chairperson of the Presidency Fiscal Policy and Reform of Taxation Committee.

He noted the accomplishments made in the current fiscal policy and tax reforms.

He solicited their excellency’s input and support on various initiatives that would directly affect the subnational level. of government authority.

‘Members pledged their backing for the parliamentary committee in guaranteeing a successful execution of these reforms and to communicate closely to address any challenges which could arise.’
