If Joe Ajaero is arrested, the Nigerian Labour Congress will shut down the nation.

Date:

On Tuesday, the Nigerian Labour Congress leadership threatened to call for a statewide walkout in the event that Comrade Joe Ajaero, the party’s president, was eventually taken into custody by the Nigerian police.

This was made public not long after the union called an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council to address the police’s invitation to the NLC President due to accusations of funding terrorism.

terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime,’ according to SaharaReporters.

The invitation, as specified in a formal letter mandates that Ajaero show up for an interview at the IRT Complex in the Guzape District of Abuja on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

The letter states that Ajaero is a person of interest in the case, according to the inquiry.

The NLC NEC decided that the president should accept the police invitation, but they also pointed out that their legal counsel ought to ask for an extension of time so the president may appear before the police.

Therefore, in the event that the police behave differently than they expected in regards to detaining Ajaero,

Comrade Ado Kabiru Sani, the Deputy President of the NLC, asked employees and their affiliate bodies to stay alert for additional instructions.

He said, ‘As a dedicated labor facility, we will accept the police’s invitation because we are not a anonymous organization, but we are negotiating a longer period of time with our attorney.

‘All employees will stop working right away if the President is taken into custody. We ought to hold off until our leadership gives us more instructions.
