JAMB withholds 64,624 results from 1.8 million UTME candidates.

Date:

The results were revealed yesterday at a press conference held at the board’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, by JAMB registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede.
According to LEADERSHIP, more than 1.9 million applicants registered for the exam and took it in more than 700 locations and 118 towns nationwide.

On Friday, April 18, the examination started, and it completed on Monday, April 29, 2024.

According to Oloyede, who stated that direct entry registration is still open, of the 1,989,668 registered candidates, 80, 810 were not present, and 1, 904, 189 took the UTME within the six days during the test.

The board is releasing the results of 1,842, 464 candidates today. Of those results, 64, 624 are under investigation for the following reasons: “Procedural investigation of candidates (4, 594), center-based investigation (57, 056) in 18 centers: Edo 12; Akwa Ibom 3, Delta 2 and Kwara 1, suspected examination irregularities (78).’

The JAMB Registrar provided an analysis of the results, stating that 1,402, 490 candidates, or 76.2 percent, scored below 200, 439,974 candidates, or 24 percent, scored 200 and above, and over 8,401 candidates, or 0.5 percent, scored 300 and above.
Nonetheless, the Board recommended that candidates text “RESULT to 55019/66019” using the phone numbers they used to register obtain their outcomes.

‘There’s no need to visit any CBT center or cybercafé to verify results,’ it continued. A candidate who receives a result will be notified of the following expected responses:

Dear ‘Candidate X,’ the following is your outcome (further information will be sent).

Under processing and ‘absent’ would be given to those who are being processed and those who are not present, accordingly.

‘Verification investigations, under investigations, and alleged infractions would be provided to those under investigation.’

Without a doubt, the 2024 UTME will go down in Board history as one of the most inventive iterations of Computer-Based Testing.

The outcomes demonstrate that the Board’s procedures are improving with each new exercise, especially in terms of decreased infractions. It stated.

‘Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Buea, Cameroon; Cotonou, Republic of Benin; London, United Kingdom, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Johannesburg, South Africa are the nine overseas centers where the Board currently conducts examinations.’

According to him, the main goals of the exam’s international component are, among other things, to promote the nation’s universities to the outside world and make sure they uphold the universality of academic traditions.

According to him, the board is now adjusting plans for the administration of the 2024 UTME at these outside locations.

Regarding the top scoring in the 2024 UTME, he stated that it could be irrational or presumptuous to declare one candidate to be the best scorer given the fact that such a candidate might not even be admitted in the end.
‘Yet, the Board appeals to all concerned to always verify claims by candidates before offering such awards, owing to public demand and to avoid a repeat of the Mmesoma saga as well as provide a guide for those, who may want to award prizes to this set of high-performing candidates,’ Oloyede stated.

Regarding the new procedures for accepting or rejecting admissions, the registrar explained that candidates can either send ‘Accept/Reject’ to 55019 or 66019 on their dedicated phone line, or they can accept or reject any admission offer—including program changes—by providing their fingerprints (biometric) at any JAMB office or an accredited CBT center.

But he bemoaned the fact that excessive parental influence is still one of the difficulties the Board is facing as it carries out its mandated duties.
