Veteran Actor Olu Jacobs, who was eighty-one years old, is said to have passed away, and the Nigerian entertainment world is in sorrow. After a protracted fight with an unidentified ailment,
the legendary actor—known for his extraordinary talent and contributions to Nollywood—passed away on Sunday morning.
With a career spanning more than 50 years, Jacobs was praised for his adaptable parts in both movies and television. Having starred in more than 200 films and other television shows, he was considered by many as one of the foundations of Nollywood.

Jacobs was educated as an actor at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London after being born in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on July 11, 1942.
His professional career started in the UK, where he appeared in several British television programs and movies before going back to Nigeria in the late 1980s.
Following his return, he began a fruitful career in Nollywood, where he soon rose to fame.
It was in films like Ashanti, The Dogs of War, Pirates, Violet, and The Royal Hibiscus Hotel that Jacobs gained his greatest recognition.
He was well-liked by both coworkers and fans for his powerful on-screen persona and rich, rich voice. To further solidify his reputation as a gifted and versatile actor, he also starred in several well-known Nigerian television shows.
Many of Jacobs’ coworkers and fans have shown their sadness and respect for the late actor in the many tributes that have been sent in from all around the world. Veteran actress Joke Silva, his wife, expressed her sentiments in a touching statement,
stating, ‘Olu was a wonderful actor who inspired and delighted countless people, a loving spouse, and a dedicated parent. The experiences we shared and his amazing collection of work will carry on his legacy.’

Numerous honors and distinctions, such as the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role and the Industry Merit Award for exceptional acting accomplishments, were given to Olu Jacobs in recognition of his services to the Nigerian film industry.
Along with his great acting career, Jacobs was well-known for mentoring upcoming performers and supporting the expansion and advancement of Nollywood. He was a fervent advocate for programs that sought to raise the standard of Nigerian cinema and provide up-and-coming artists a platform.
