Rivers State Crisis, The Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, expressed confidence that by 2027, his dominance in the political landscape of Rivers State will be undeniable.
Wike made these assertions during a reconciliation meeting with the South-south Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Victor Giadom, at his Bera country home in Gokana Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State.
Rivers State Crisis: We will Know Who is in Charge When Time Comes
Emphasizing the purpose of his visit, Wike stated, “My presence here is not driven by political motives. I am here to pay a visit to my friend, Giadom. Let there be no misconceptions about my visit. That is why I am accompanied by leaders from both the PDP and APC. This is a personal visit to my friend.”
Wike remarked that Giadom’s gathering of his supporters was merely a demonstration of his enduring political relevance, highlighting that politics should be about effecting positive change in the lives of the people. Addressing Giadom, he remarked, “I have always been aware of your ability to connect with your constituents. Politics is about influence. To be a successful politician, you must impact your constituents so that when you call upon them, they respond to you.”
Discussing his widespread popularity and the public’s inclination to take photographs with him, the FCT minister attributed it to his dedicated service to the people. Nonetheless, he dismissed detractors as “hungry noisemakers on the road,” asserting that the true test of leadership will come in due time.
Regarding his renewed alliance with Giadom, Wike reflected, “Political parties may come and go, but friendships endure. We have all made mistakes; we are only human, but friendship perseveres. When I was appointed as a minister, Victor Giadom led a delegation to congratulate me. It does not matter which party you belong to; what matters is the welfare of Rivers State. Successful politicians will inevitably attract detractors. No one has excelled in politics without making enemies. Those who harbor animosity are in the minority, while those who support you are in the majority.”
Recalling his tenure as the Rivers governor, Wike affirmed his commitment to backing the administration of President Tinubu. “During my governorship, Rivers State achieved national recognition,” he declared. This has always been my message. Therefore, there is no cause for apprehension. I have no regrets for standing alongside my colleagues and friends in advocating for the presidency to be zoned to the south. This visit today will undoubtedly stir up controversy. Some individuals will begin making visits. Follow those who are knowledgeable. Continue to support Victor and all leaders who have the best interests of the people at heart.”
“An Ogoni man is leading the works department, a historic first.” I am delighted that Ledum Mitee is a member of the NNPCL. Let no one sow discord within the community. Development will be hindered if such actions persist,” Wike added.
Giadom, in response to Wike’s visit, described it as the homecoming of a brother, a friend, and a leader, assuring him of their support for any team he leads in Rivers.
